What Is Fissure ?
An anal fissure is a small tear in the thin, moist tissue that lines the anus. The anus is the muscular opening at the end of the digestive tract where stool exits the body. Common causes of an anal fissure include constipation and straining or passing hard or large stools during a bowel movement.
Anal fissures are most commonly caused by damage to the lining of the anus or anal canal, the last part of the large intestine. Most cases occur in people who have constipation, when a particularly hard or large poo tears the lining of the anal canal. Other possible causes of anal fissures include: persistent diarrhoea.
Treatment for a fissure (anal fissure) usually involves lifestyle changes, such as increased fiber intake, adequate hydration, and stool softeners. Topical medications to relax the anal sphincter and promote healing are common. Severe cases may require surgical intervention. Pain relief and prevention of constipation are key aspects of treatment.
